I'm going to try flashing the latest, unmodded BIOS, but I'm not expecting that to fix it. But when I do that it briefly removes the 'black veil' to flash the desktop at me right before it shuts down. So the only thing I know to do is hold the power button until it shuts down.

The problem with the one driver it will take is power management. If I try to do it manually through device manager, I either get a bogus error about not being able to find a file, or it bluescreens. All the others I've tried the installer runs through without errors but the driver doesn't actually install.
